Location DataBase: We have comprehensive picture database covering an extensive range of locations across Namibia. Locations reference samples can be viewed on our website or contacting the Big Banana & Sidewinder offices in Johannesburg for detailed reference packages.

Locations: Due to the sound working relationship between Sidewinder Films and various location owners, we can offer access to locations that would otherwise be out of bounds to most commercial filmmakers .We offer location scouting services which are done on state of the art digital cameras. We use GPS technology and provide Sunpath Charts with all our presentations.

Location Permits: Filming permits are required for all locations in Namibia. Location fees vary depending on the nature of the shoot, size of production and whether the location falls on private property, state land, within an indigenous conservancy or within a National Park.

Work Permits: Prior to the commencing of filming activities, work permits are required for all foreign nationals entering Namibia. Before work permits can be applied for, all the necessary permits need to be in order. Sidewinder can facilitate all the necessary permitation.

Crew: There are very few key technicians in Namibia however , non-technical crew with film / commercial / documentary experience can be provided by Sidewinder. Crew members include PA’s, chaperones, drivers, art director, set-builders, art dept assistants, make up and wardrobe assistants, location managers, unit managers, unit assistants and qualified paramedics.

Unit: Sidewinder has access to a comprehensive unit facility and the only complete unit set-up in Namibia. A variety of other unit / location equipment e.g. generators. water bowsers, industrial cranes etc. are available and can be sourced on request.

Technical Equipment: No 35mm film equipment is at present available in Namibia. Any gear requirements have to be obtained from South Africa.
There is no film stock available in Namibia. There is however some 16mm equipment and video equipment. There are a number of cameramen and operators available with this equipment.

Casting Agents: Casting for extras and minor roles can be arranged. There are professional modelling agents in Namibia.

Animal Wranglers: Sidewinder has access to a wide variety of animals such as horses, cheetahs, lions, monkeys, baboons, vultures, eagles, various reptiles and even scorpions. In most cases the animals can be transported to the chosen location, however with more difficult animals such as antelope and some cats one would have to travel to the animals are based.

Transport: Sidewinder has negotiated competitive vehicle rates, inclusive of unlimited mileage, and various insurance policies being available
Panelvans. 4x4 trucks and quad-bikes can be arranged.

Catering and Craft: Professional film catering geared towards Namibian conditions can be provided at any given location in Namibia. Costs are dependant on the location and menus selected. For smaller documentary and stills shoots , Sidewinder does the catering and craft itself.

Accommodation / Hotels & Lodges: Wherever filming takes place Sidewinder endeavours to utilise hotels or lodges and guesthouses, mainly due to the obvious comfort and convenience offered in somewhat uncomfortable environments. Over the years we have established good relationships with both big hotels and smaller establishments and are able to offer extremely good rates irrespective of the size of the group or time of year.

Accommodation / Tented Camps: In more remote areas one has to resort to the “roughing it” option of a tented camp. Sidewinder offers a host of professional operations geared toward providing on-location accommodation.

Aircraft and Aerial Filming: Sidewinder has access to wide range of aircraft for charter from micro-lights to small and large fixed wing planes and helicopters.

Communications: There is a good cell phone network in Namibia with reception however being generally limited to major centres and national roads. When working out of range of cellular reception. mobile vehicle systems and portable hand units, working through repeater stations are available. For extremely remote areas satellite phones are available. Cell phones for production use can be hired at most major centres.

Administration: Sidewinder Films has moved its main operating base to Johannesburg South Africa but we have access to office space or rent premises for individual productions.
In most major centres extra computer equipment can be hired and all other general services such as copying, freighting etc can easily be arranged.
